The Armory Show 2026

De Buck returns to The Armory Show with a booth built around two conversations: contemporary painters remaking what a picture is made of, and a spine of historical work that puts them in context.

At its centre is a group of new paintings by Gommaar Gilliams, whose oil, oil stick and acrylic are worked into pre-painted and stitched fabrics — the seams left visible so each canvas reads as something constructed rather than simply painted. Alongside them, Devan Shimoyama's figures are built from sequins, glitter, rhinestones, collage and jewellery over oil, turning portraiture into something that catches the light and holds it.

These are shown with works on paper by Roger Raveel — the Belgian master of the Nieuwe Visie, in ink, gouache and pastel from 1962 to 1992 — a Magritte lithograph, ZEVS's gold-leaf Illuminated painting, and a Banksy sculpture. Together they trace a line from postwar Belgian painting to the material invention of the present.
